James Ross - Programme Lead and Coach Mentor
James is well qualified to lead the Talent Academy coaching co-ordination and mentor our coaching team. He completed the GB Advanced Coaching Programme 5 years ago and has a number of courses and qualifications. James has coaching experience dating back over 20 years and has a proven track record at the elite and national league level for clubs, schools, counties and universities. James is currently leading the ladies performance programme at Sheffield Hockey Club, having fantastic success securing promotion to England Hockey National Conference North in the 24/25 season. All of which will be invaluable to our Talent Academy Programme
Martin Sutherland - Boys Programme Lead Contact
Martin is well known throughout the region and beyond, having played top level national league hockey for 15 years including 2 years in the premier division, currently playing and coaching at Wakefield Hockey Club. He has proven experience and success in coaching youth level players in a variety of environments including club, county, regional performance centre, university and school.
Will Hearne - Girls Programme Lead Contact
Will is an experienced hockey coach with over 20 years at the highest level as both player and coach. Former England age-group representative, National League coach, and current Director of Juniors and Head Coach of Ladies Performance at Doncaster Hockey Club. Will is completing GB’s Advanced Coach Programme and runs his own coaching business called The Wolf Academy, delivering participation and elite level coaching.
Alex Molyneux - Education Lead
An FIH Level 3 qualified coach, Alex has recently led the Youth Talent Development programme at Sheffield Hockey Club and has a wealth of experience going over 10 years. His success with the University of Sheffield team securing promotion to BUCS premier division, club coaching at performance level, his work with South Yorkshire County teams alongside extensive national league playing experience gives him the ideal experience to take a lead role in delivering our Talent Academy programme.
Kieran Heath
Kieran has extensive playing and coaching experience. He represented Leek in the National League as a teenager before joining the Armed Forces. He subsequently played at National League level in both The Netherlands and Belgium, which is where he developed his coaching skills. Since his return to the UK Kieran has been Head Coach for both Durham City Men and Newcastle Ladies at Yorkshire & NE Prem level, and has delivered the BUCS programme for Northumbria University. He is moving from a successful spell as lead coach at the Durham TA, to join the Sheffield TA. Alongside this Kieran will lead the Men's Performance Programme at Sheffield Hockey Club, with the men's 1st XI playing in the England Hockey National Conference North league.
Lauren Wood
Lauren has developed her coaching skills over the last 5 years, delivering structured and engaging hockey at club and school level alongside private coaching for some well-known organisations in the region. Lauren is keen to apply a holistic approach to developing athletes, with a keen interest in coaching philosophy, Complete Player Qualities, prioritising hockey IQ, skill development, and individual wellbeing.
Malcom Pratt
Malcolm brings a huge amount of knowledge and experience to the TA Programme, having been instrumental in securing our Talent Centre Accreditation. With over 15 years of coaching experience with club juniors and at county level we are delighted to welcome Malcom to the team.
Henry Down
Henry is relatively new to coaching but has been building his experience over the last few years. He has a strong personal commitment to the development of young athletes and has led Sheffield U16 boys, alongside his coaching at County level. Having progressed through both Performance Centre and Talent Academy as a player, he has a deep understanding of the England Hockey Talent Framework and Talent Principles. He places strong emphasis on building confidence, maintaining a healthy and safe development culture, and forming meaningful relationships with both players and parents.
Harvey Amos
Harvey is an ambitious young man who wants to improve hockey in the North of England. He has 3 years of coaching experience at Sheffield Hockey Club. His recent involvement in the talent pathway means he can individually help players improve not just technically but also with their knowledge of playing within a system and how they can push themselves to reach that next level. Using first hand experience, he can confidently advise how to handle the talent environment and balance commitments beyond just hockey.
Dylan Lim Hon - Physio, Strength and Conditioning
Dylan is a qualified physiotherapist with 4 years’ experience working with the public health sector. Dylan is also a former Beeston Men’s first team player and competed in the Men’s Premier League over the last two seasons, returning to play for Sheffield Hockey Club men's first team. He looks forward to working with the Talent Academy players, ensuring continuous support on and off the pitch for injury prevention and management. You can contact Dylan here
