26th March 7th XI 3 - Chesterfield 4ths 2
Thought I ought too write this before tomorrow’s game!!
This home game was played in Chesterfield. The original game was scheduled for 18.00 but when we cross checked their admin hadn’t passed to their captain and they could not play at that time. They offered to host at 14.30 so we were happy to agree that.
The game started with them pressing and we indebted to Isacc Berry , making his senior debut , for some good saves to keep the score goalless. We then started to take the game to them We created some good chances and Kai converted one and that was followed by a mazy run from Freddie which he finished himself. Their equally young goalkeeper made some really good saves to keep the score at 2-0 at half time.
We started the second half as badly as we started the first and they scored from two follow ups at short corners when we didn’t cover rebounds. We started to dominate again but weren’t able to score from a few short corners and some open play chances . There was one fantastic move from Eddie which took the ball across the goal line but he was denied what would have been a brilliant goal by good defensive cover. A good team move eventually created a better chance and Kai put us in front again which we managed to hold onto for the win. A great game between two well matched teams which we probably just deserved to win.
Everyone played well and difficult to pick any outstanding contribution – just a really good team performance Thanks to Chris Berry for timng the substitutions , four are a bit difficult to sort without help.
Great teas as usual and nearly everyone stayed for sandwiches , sausage and chips and a drink.
