Our first game of the season saw our team of 11 travel to Huddersfield Dragons - the pitch where it always snows (but it didn't)! We had some familiar faces and some fresh new ones too and a good mix of experience and youth.
Rachel Mead opened the scoring in the 6th minute and it set the tone for the rest of the match. She took a tumble early on, resulting in a bloodied grazed knee when going in for a tackle.
The team played well, keeping our width and the young legs speeding up the pitch gave us some good advantage. Particularly through our girl of the game, Sarah, whose pace and skill got the better of the Dragons several times. By half time we were 5-0 up - a further goal from Rachel, 2 from Sarah and 1 from Louise.
We just about caught our breath during half time but were feeling the lack of subs! There will be some achy muscles this evening. Shortly after half time the captain (me) scored followed soon after by another one from Sarah.
Then came our second body on the line from new girl Ella who took a high speed shot to the side of her knee, unfortunately she was in our defensive circle at the time and the opposition scored from the resulting short corner.
A fantastic start to the season from committed, skilful, generous, dedicated ladies. Thank you!
