The first half was very close. Sheffield found it difficult to get a decent attempt on goal with the Hull hyenas crowding the D in a pack, at one point having their entire team within their 23- they must have smelt danger.
The defence were also kept busy with counterattacks from the opposition, but with hawk-like attention, kept Hull at bay. Looking back, it seemed relatively uneventful- but gosh were we tired at half time!
0-0 at half time. Many thanks to Rob Ward for the tips in our half time talk! We did try to put them into practice in the second half, which began much as the first ended, with both teams battling well. For one heart stopping moment it seemed Hull had crept ahead, but they were premature in their cheers, as we all realised the whistle had blown for a foot foul before the ball had crossed the line.
It took a moment for Sheffield to recompose, before we were off again, with some lovely attacking play down the line, as Hull packed the centre in their presses. Possession was fairly even, but Shef conceded with around 14mins to go.
Hope glimmered for Sheffield for a second with less than 10mins to go when we were given a short, but following protest from Hull defenders the decision was overturned. We couldn’t quite get the break, despite several more attempts in the final stages of the match.
