The new formation worked we might try it again
Women’s 4’s win 4-0 against Leopold.
An away game at Meadowhead so at least we knew to watch out for the bumpy, skippy yellow lines taking away that advantage for the home team.
We had a different formation today having only 3 defenders so we opted for a 3 4 3. It took a bit of getting use to and we were a bit unsettled for the first 15 minutes but once Rebecka Wright scored the opening goal (op) things calmed down. Some lovely passes from the mids kept the ball in the attacking half and the defence held strong when Leopold had some breaks. Hajar scored the second goal (op) 10 minutes before half time. We continued to attack right up to the half time whistle which when blown by Mark Beavis made Jennifer Farrington who was fighting for the ball think she was going to receive a card and was very relieved when he said half time.
After deciding that our revised formation was working well - it was certainly a very attacking game for us and we didn’t allow Leopold any space in the middle of the pitch- and that we would stick with it for the second half we were eager to continue with the game. The second half was a bit more physical!! But we continued to battle hard keeping the ball out of our 23. After a number of short corners one finally made it into the goal - a great slap from Hannah Richardson tapped in by Hajar for her second. Vikki Beavis finally converted one of her chances getting the 4th goal (op).
Special mentions to Sandra Bloor and Sarah Carroll for playing bottom of the diamond and proving you are as good at defending as you are attacking. Fantastic determination from Colette Shaw in the second half after being on the receiving end of a nasty knock (Karma won in the end ?) Anna Hewlett only touched the ball a couple of times in goal but was attentive throughout. Trixie and Lulu for lovely runs and passing. Beth Spooner welcome back after your injury break it’s great to have you back on the pitch. Cathryn Harrex and Karen Milbourn who as defenders I think perhaps spent more time in the attacking 3/4 or even half of the pitch than any other game played.
Finally extra special thanks to Becky Farris for coming to support us and run the subs on her weekend home from university.
MoM Rebecka Wright with twins Lulu and Trixie tied for 2nd place.
