The wind was with us, as we instantly went on the attack. Within the first two mins Rachel Mead was diving for a deflection that sadly went wide. The ball spent the majority of the time in Doncaster’s half. There was drama with the first short corner, with Sandra being sent to the half way line for apparently 'dummying' but at the next attempt one of the opposition broke early, so off they went to the half way line too! Play continued we were unable to convert. But the attacks were tenacious. Another short corner mistrapped at the top, passed to Jen at right slip, stuck with force and deflect of a Doncaster foot, or possibly stick, over the keepers head into the goal. The second goal game not long after, with Becs right slipping it again, receiving the ball back and hitting the target.
End of the first half Sheffield Hallam 2, Doncaster independent 0.
After an impassioned half time talk from the captain, and a quick rejigging of sub rotations, we came back on, heads high. Running into the strong winds at Meadowhead proved challenging, but we remained dominant with only a few breaks from the opposition posing a threat. Hollie was cool as a cucumber, nothing was getting past her, parrying the challengers away with ease. The defence held strong, as both teams started to so signs of fatigue. Final nail in the coffin came from great team play between Rachel Mead and Becs in the D, Becs scoring the goal in the end.
A deserved winner of girl of the game, closely followed by Louisa and Danielle tying for second place.
Final score 3- 0
