Slazenger 1s 3 - 5 Sheffield 2s

This week saw Sheffield 2s take the short drive up the M1 to Slazengers Wakefield.

We always knew that this had the potential to be a feisty game and it didn’t disappoint!

Sheffield started on the front foot and took the lead after 2 minutes off the 1st short corner with a back to injector finish from Maddie.
Becca quickly added a 2nd with good build up play from Plug, Maddie and Emilia in midfield.

Slazengers started to find their feet and the umpires’ whistle and clawed their way back into the game halfing the deficit. Just before half time Sheffield managed to get a SC where the ball was lifted at the top of the D and Marcie somehow managed to reach the ball mid air and bat it, ‘fly squatting’ style into the goal. The umpire on this occasion did play to the advantage which saw Sheffield go 3-1 up. Minutes later, Slazengers were awarded a short corner which they converted to make it 3-2 at half time.

With an effective team talk and energy from Caz’s oranges again Sheffield started the better team. However, Slazengers managed to sneak an equaliser against the run of play.

Sheffield regrouped and some slick passing round the back from Annie, Nic and Gabby allowed the ball to be quickly released up to the forwards. Slazenger had no reply to the quick passes and running off the ball that Sheffield maintained. The win was never in doubt, although the game did see some green cards for El, Emily and Emilia. And a child like paddy from Marcie (the reason for this report-3rd one out of 4 games!). Sheffield fought hard until the end with 2 more goals coming from Becca and Emma to make the final score 5-3. A very well earned victory against a tricky team and contentious umpiring decisions which could have upset the run of wins! Well done all!
