U10 Boys Crowned Yorkshire & North East Regional Hockey Champions
After a year of dedication, teamwork, and thrilling hockey, the U10 Boys team have been crowned Yorkshire and North East Regional Champions – a fitting reward for a group that has given their all from the first whistle of the season to the last.
They have played out this season in Division 1 of the Yorkshire League, where the boys played fast, attacking hockey and worked hard to develop their defensive discipline and organisation. They finished the Yorkshire League as bronze medalists which they followed with a runners up trophy in the Yorkshire playoffs.
But it was at the England Hockey In2Hockey Regional Cup Finals Day where this group truly shone. Having qualified in March for the final eight, the team took to the pitch last Sunday with determination and confidence.
They emerged from the pool stages in second place, setting up a gripping semi-final clash with Slazenger. In a tight contest, Sheffield edged it 2-1 to book their place in the final against a talented York side.
The final was a joy to watch. Both teams delivered end-to-end hockey with passionate support from the sidelines. With the score tied 1-1 in the closing minutes, it seemed the game might be headed for shuffles – a nerve-racking repeat of previous matchups. But Sheffield found a special moment on the counterattack to score and take the lead 2-1, holding firm until the final whistle.
The true spirit of the sport was on full display as the boys from both sides shook hands – and even hugged – in a show of sportsmanship that underlined what youth hockey is all about.
A huge thank you goes to the tournament organisers, as well as to Rob and Jay for their fantastic coaching and leadership on Sunday. Special thanks also go to the parents for their unwavering support from the sidelines every tournament.
The club could not be prouder of these young players. Their progress, their passion, and their unity have been a joy to witness.
Well done, boys – champions of Yorkshire and the North East!
