What could you offer to the club?

"You don't have to serve for as long as I have....."
- Roger Lomas

The continued success of SHC on the pitch is predicated entirely by the hard-work and efforts of our highly committed supporting cast of volunteers off the pitch who give up their time to carry out a variety of roles/functions across the Club.

As we reach the final few weeks of the current season our attention is already turning to planning for next season and with this in mind, we have several vacancies across the club which we need to fill for the season to come.

Each role requires a modest time commitment to carry out, whilst offering you the opportunity to play an active and extremely rewarding part in the on-going management, direction, and future success of SHC. Your efforts will make a real difference to all our members.

Should you wish to express an interest in undertaking any of the roles detailed below, please email, SHC Club Chair, Stephen Hipwell at Steve.Hipwell@hotmail.com or drop a text to 07776 155371.

Ladies Club Captain:
Our current Ladies Club Captain, Maz Veater will be stepping down from this role at the end of this season.

As our next Ladies Club Captain you will act as a figure head for our Senior Ladies Playing Section representing their interests on the club’s Executive Committee alongside providing guidance, direction and leadership to each of the club’s Ladies Team Captains. You will also be on hand to support all club members with any playing, coaching, selection or welfare matters, as well as leading weekly club selection meetings.

Previous team captain or similar leadership experience is desirable, although, not essential, however, good communication, organisation and management skills will all need to play their part in this role.

If you’d like to know more about the role, please contact Maz who would be happy to give you a flavour of the role and what it takes to be a successful Club Captain. please contact Maz via email: veats96@hotmail.com

Men’s Membership Secretary:
After a number of year’s carrying out this role, Nick Bettles our current Men’s Membership Secretary will be stepping down.

As Men’s Membership Secretary you will handle all membership related activities across the Senior Men’s Playing Section, from dealing with new members enquiries, ensuring annual membership fees and weekly match fees are being paid in full and on time, to managing player transfer requests.

You will also work alongside our Ladies Membership Secretary and Club Treasurer to ensure membership income is accounted for and our membership rules are applied consistently across the club, alongside supporting the wider leadership of SHC as a member of the Club’s Executive Committee.

If you would like to know more about this role please get in touch with Nick or speak to our Ladies Membership Secretary, Vikki Beavis.

Junior Section Membership Secretary (New Role):
Junior Section membership matters are currently handled by our Junior Co-ordinator, however, with about 250 Junior Members (U8 – U16) in the club, this newly created role of Junior Section Membership Secretary will be important to support this membership as well as their parents moving forward.

You will work in partnership with others to improve the experience for all Junior club members, process new member applications, liaise with parents to welcome and integrate new members successfully into the club, and report membership statistics and information as needed by SHC’s Executive Committee members and Lead Contacts/Coaching Teams for each age group.

You will also work with the Club’s Treasurer to advise about players who have not paid subscriptions and/or match fees, alongside membership of SHC’s Junior Sub-Committee, which meets at regular intervals.

Want to know more, please get in touch with Jeremy Ferreira, SHC’s Junior Club Co-ordinator to learn more about the new and exciting role.

Welfare Officer (New Role):
Player welfare is at the forefront of all that we do at SHC and we are lucky to have two Club Welfare Officers, Marni Greig and Michele Daw who do a great job in keeping us all safe at all times.

With the continued growth of the club, particularly at junior level, alongside ensuring we deliver on all our welfare duties and commitments as both an accredited ClubMark sports club and England Hockey Talent Centre, we are looking for a third Club Welfare Officer to join this team.

Whilst previous experience of supporting welfare, physical/mental health and wellbeing within either a sporting or working environment would be advantageous it is by no means essential as full training, guidance and support will be provided. What is important is your commitment to helping others and the ability to act with humility, compassion, and impartiality in assisting members whenever they require such support.

If you would like to know more about this role, please contact Marni or Michele who’d be happy to give you a flavour of the role and what it takes to be a successful Welfare Officer.

Sponsorship/Fundraising Group Members:
Despite several requests over the past 12-18 months, we remain in desperate need for club members to volunteer to be part of a Club Sponsorship/Fundraising Sub-Committee.

Sponsorship and fundraising are both vital sources of income and without them impact greatly on the quality of our overall membership offer, our ability to purchase much needed new and replacement equipment, and ultimately what we each pay in terms of our annual membership and weekly match fees.

We would very much like to establish a Sponsorship/Fundraising Committee to help manage and co-ordinate all of the club’s sponsorship and fundraising activities, noting the role that all club members have in actively supporting all such activities. We would also very much welcome the involvement of any parent members in establishing this Committee.

If you could spare a few hours a month to be part of this sub-committee we’d like to hear from you, even, if you just wish to volunteer to help organise or run some form of fundraising event over the course of next season.

If you’d like to get involved in supporting our sponsorship or fundraising efforts (or have a sponsorship or fundraising idea) please do get in touch or speak to your respective Club Captains, Maz or Chris or any member of the Club’s Executive Committee to find out more.
